Are there Moldovan/Georgian communities or immigrant groups in Bulgaria?

Moldovan and Georgian communities are present in Bulgaria. As a neighboring country, Moldova shares deep historical, cultural, and social ties with Bulgaria, contributing to the presence of Moldovan nationals in this country. They were typically part of the immigration in the past several decades, which was linked to economic opportunities and labour migration, as well as the political and social changes in Moldova and Georgia. Since Bulgaria’s accession to the European Union in 2007, many Moldovans have taken advantage of new opportunities for employment and education in the country. They are predominantly based in major cities such as Sofia, Varna, and Plovdiv, but also in smaller towns like Stara Zagora and Burgas.

These communities based in Bulgaria form part of the broader diaspora from the former Soviet republics. There are also families with strong ties to Bulgaria, as well as to both Moldova and Georgia
