According to the Quantitative and Qualitative Survey of the Needs of the Labour and Social Environment in Bulgaria, employers most frequently point out the language barrier as a challenge (67%). This is followed by the complexity of the selection and recruitment process for foreign staff, which ranks significantly lower at 32%.
However, employers have developed strategies to overcome the language barrier. Many HR professionals provide Bulgarian language courses for incoming workers, while others prioritize hiring workers from countries where Russian is spoken to facilitate basic communication. Additionally, some employers ensure that at least two English-speaking individuals are included in every group of 10–15 workers to assist with group communication.
