The new permit aims to attract professionals from the high-tech and innovation industries, as well as the creative industries, who work remotely and are seeking favorable living conditions – including reliable digital infrastructure and high-speed internet. The measure is expected to support economic growth by increasing consumption and investment in local services and the business environment.
The changes are part of amendments to the Regulations for the Implementation of the Foreigners in the Republic of Bulgaria Act and the Regulations on the Issuance of Bulgarian Identity Documents, which aim to ensure clearer and more predictable procedures for both applicants and the state authorities processing the applications.
The new rules regulate the required documents and conditions for issuing the permits. Also, amendments are introduced to optimize services related to identity documents – including centralized personalization of documents by the Bulgarian Identity Documents Directorate within the Ministry of Interior.
The digital nomad regulation follows amendments adopted in June to the Foreigners Act, which allow the issuance of such long-term residence permits to individuals holding long-term visas of up to six months and residence rights of up to 180 days.
