What is the deadline for issuing a single work permit and type D visa?

The approval process for a single work permit can take several weeks or even more than a month. This is due to the numerous procedural steps required, the involvement of competent authorities, and the necessary verification and validation of information.

To obtain a visa, a worker must apply no earlier than three months before the planned date of arrival. The consular officer schedules a specific date and time, which takes place within two weeks of the date of submitted application. The decision on a type D visa application is typically made within 35 working days from the date of submission. However, exceptions apply to certain categories of applicants, including family members of Bulgarian citizens, scientific researchers, full-time students, high school students, individuals coming to Bulgaria for seasonal work, and highly qualified holders of an EU Blue Card. For these applicants, the visa issuance period is reduced to a maximum of 15 calendar days.
