Tourist sector welcomes simplified hiring procedures under labour agreements

As Bulgaria prepares for the peak summer season, the tourism industry is opening its doors to foreign seasonal workers. Thanks to bilateral agreements with Georgia and Moldova, citizens of these countries can now apply for short-term positions in the hospitality and tourism sectors through a simplified legal process.

Employers across Bulgaria are actively recruiting workers for positions such as waiters, housekeepers, kitchen staff, receptionists, and lifeguards. These roles are critical for supporting hotels, restaurants, and resorts that experience a significant increase in visitors during the warmer months. The simplified hiring process allows candidates to obtain the necessary documentation – including visa type D and seasonal work permits – more quickly and with less bureaucratic burden.

The agreements with Georgia and Moldova outline specific steps for employers and intermediaries, making the recruitment and onboarding process smoother. Additionally, many employers offer accommodation, meals, and on-site training to ensure smooth adaptation.

Candidates can apply through the Bulgarian Employment Agency, or via licensed intermediaries in their home countries. Successful applicants receive temporary residence status for the duration of their contract, which may last up to 9 months.

This opportunity not only helps alleviate Bulgaria’s labour shortages in tourism but also offers valuable experience, income, and cultural exchange for workers. Many participants return in subsequent seasons or explore opportunities for long-term residence and employment.
