For seasonal work up to 90 days:
- A short-term stay visa, if required;
Seasonal work permits are issued exclusively for the sectors of tourism and agriculture;
For seasonal work lasting from 90 days to 9 months:
- Must comply with Directive 2014/36/EU[1]
- Work permit of the seasonal worker;
- Type D visa;
The seasonal worker permit is valid for a maximum of 9 months;
Upon arrival in Bulgaria, the employer must register the worker’s position in the local Labour Office Directorate of the Employment Agency;
When stay authorization is required, a type D visa application may need to be submitted at a Bulgarian embassy or consulate;
The employer is responsible for covering the cost of the worker’s travel from their home country to the place of work in Bulgaria;
The employer is also responsible for covering the cost of travel from the place of work to the worker’s home country upon termination of the employment relation;
The employer must provide accommodation to the worker for the duration of the employment contract:
- The accommodation is required to meet all health and safety standards;
After arriving in Bulgaria, the worker must obtain a stay permit from the Migration Directorate;
Obtaining a work permit is mandatory and requires:
- Submission of an application form;
- Educational qualification documents;
- Proof of financial means for subsistence, which must not be lower than the minimum monthly salary for the duration of residence in Bulgaria;
Upon arrival, the worker must report their address of residence to the Migration Directorate;
Changing employers is allowed only with the permission of the Employment Agency, without leaving the territory of Bulgaria.
